We Make It Great, Not Them
I've idly experienced the "Donnie and Hillary Show" for far too long and now that it's about to be over I was compelled.
I've said nothing to my students for months, but today I said a few things.
In case they didn't realize it yet, I wanted them to know that the politicians always play their cards to make it seem as though our future is in their hands. But this is wrong.
No one's getting the American Dream, a car, or even a pony regardless of who wins tonight. We'll still have to think, hustle, and put skills to use to get these things if we want them. Trump's not saving anyone. Clinton's not saving us either. And that's okay...
We learn so that we can think. We believe in people and in ourselves so we can persevere. We work together so we can gain the skills. We trust so we can build a better world around us.
Our future is in our hands. It has always been. And always will be.
Do not believe for a second that the opposite is true. You can be a pawn in the game or go out and create a great life for yourself no matter who ends up sitting in that chair.
Sure some things will change, but who you are, a good person who cares about others, never will, if you only choose so. It matters not if you play for the DFL or the GOP.
We can knock down the walls that divide us. After all, they exist only in our minds. There are more bridges than walls and all we have to do is walk across. We can choose to listen to the noise or rise above it. We can rise together.
No matter who won last night we can still create, believe, trust, love, and lift each other.
Because this simple truth remains:
We Make It Great, Not Them.
